This research takes the famed <em>Innovator&#8217;s Dilemma<\/em> to the next level.\u00a0It\u00a0suggests\u00a0corporate concentration has peaked, argues that firm borders are evaporating, highlights the diminishing returns of traditional R&amp;D and M&amp;A,\u00a0and\u00a0shows\u00a0how\u00a0big firms might harness the unique\u00a0strengths of startups to transform and grow.<\/p>\n<p>A few excerpts:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">&#8220;The dominant business story of the coming\u00a0decade will be the\u00a0disaggregation\u00a0of the firm. After reaching a peak of\u00a0corporate and industry concentration, the undeniable forces of technology have unleashed a new phase of decentralization . . . Today, thousands of smart people at hundreds of important companies are spending millions of hours and billions of dollars to advance an illusion of innovation. The\u00a0evidence can be seen in the\u00a0individual challenges of big firms and the macroeconomic data\u00a0of a pronounced productivity slowdown in the traditional industries, which make up 70\u00a0percent of the economy . . .&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">&#8221; . . .
