Bret Swanson<\/p><\/div>\n

Bret Swanson is president of Entropy Economics LLC<\/a>, a technology research firm that advises institutional investors and technology companies. He is also a fellow at the Brownstone Institute<\/a> and a visiting fellow and advisory council member of the Krach Institute for Tech Diplomacy at Purdue<\/a>. From 2013 to 2023, he was a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he co-founded the technology research program.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Swanson launched Infonomena<\/strong><\/a>, a new tech and economics channel on Substack.<\/p>\n

For eight years Swanson advised technology investors as executive editor of the Gilder Technology Report<\/em> and later was a senior fellow at The Progress & Freedom Foundation, where he directed the Center for Global Innovation. Between 2005 and 2020, he was also a fellow\u00a0at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, where he studied economic growth and capital markets.<\/p>\n

Swanson presents his research around the globe and\u00a0often contributes to the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal<\/em> on technology and the economy. For many years, he wrote\u00a0a column<\/a> for Forbes.com.<\/em><\/p>\n

From 2009 to 2024, he was chairman and trustee of the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS), the state’s $50-billion pension fund, where he also chaired the investment working group. He is a board member of the Insurance Collaboration to Save Lives, a partnership with life and health insurance companies aimed at mitigating rising mortality rates. For five years he was a member of the investment committee at Indiana University Health.<\/p>\n

His recent research focuses on information technology and A.I.’s potential to drive a resurgence in productivity and economic growth. In previous research, he has presented a new theory<\/a> of the economic rise of China; projected an “exaflood”<\/a> of Web video, leading to an estimated 56% compound annual growth of Internet traffic through the year 2015; exposed the deep monetary errors behind the crashes of both 2000 and 2008; anticipated\u00a0the shale hydrocarbon boom<\/a> and following drop in energy prices; advanced a new concept<\/a> linking information theory and entrepreneurial economics; and explained how digital censorship led to the vast array of Covid policy mistakes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Swanson began his career as an aide to Sen. Richard Lugar and was then an economic analyst for former Rep. Jack Kemp. He studied economics at Princeton University and now lives in Zionsville, Indiana, with his wife and four children.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
